If you are looking to enroll your child in elementary school you might be wondering what your options are. Your child may benefit from attending a Montessori school in Portland.
What is Montessori?
Children have a natural desire to learn and explore the world around them, according to the Montessori philosophy. To do so, they should be given the freedom and support to do so.
The Montessori method emphasizes hands-on experiences and using all the senses to help your child learn. Children are encouraged to explore and discover on their own in Montessori classrooms. Specifically designed materials and activities promote learning and development with that in mind.
In a Montessori classroom, your child will be grouped together in mixed-age classrooms and will be encouraged to work at their own pace. The emphasis is on self-directed learning and the teacher acts as a facilitator and guide rather than a traditional lecturer.
Montessori also emphasizes the development of social skills, emotional intelligence, and independence. Collaboration, effective communication, and self-discipline will be encouraged in your child.
Overall, the Montessori philosophy is centered on the idea that education should be child-centered. Children should be given the freedom and support to learn and grow at their own pace, in a nurturing and supportive environment.
