Family is a beautiful and complex thing, isn’t it? I’m always a little jealous of people who have family nearby because my extended family lives so far away.
Bringing the grandparents to your family session can be so sweet. Imagine having these memories to keep forever and ever!
Grandparents are always welcome to my full, one hour sessions at no additional cost. If you are thinking of bringing your parents or in-laws just let me know!
Another super fun thing to do is to include more of your extended family in a session. This gorgeous extended family session in Oregon City was booked by the grown up kids as a gift to grandma. I loved making these memories for them and they had so much fun!
What to consider when planning your extended family session
Extended family sessions are so special. To me, gathering family is always a beautiful event ( although I know that is not the case for everybody, of course). Documenting it makes it extra special.
When planning your extended family session with me, you will have my full support to plan styling, location and getting everybody ready.
This super cool family did such a great job taking my styling advice and injecting their personality into it.
Some important things to consider:
- Choose a color palette. It will be hard to plan exactly what everybody will wear in advance if you have a lot of different families in the session. But when you pick a color palette and ask everybody to stick to it, it makes it so much easier to achieve a cohesive look. Check out Pinterest for some great color palette inspiration.
- Pick a location that has some key features to it so that we can get a lot of diversity in the photos. This particular location had the river, a beautiful bridge and rocks. You can pick a location with gorgeous tress, flowers or anything that will help enhance the look of the photos.
- Bring a playful and relaxed attitude to the shoot. This is the time to have fun and enjoy each other’s company
